What is Depression?

In today’s world, people come across or listen about different diseases which sound to be very strange, and some kind of disease which they have never heard of. There may be several reasons why a person comes under the influence of a disease or become ill the reason may be any of the one like taking improper diet, skipping meals, consumption of alcohol, or chewing of tobacco, taking to much stress or tension etc.

Various diseases are related to different body parts or may affect various organs of the human body. Diseases which are related to the brain are very hazardous because they can lead to many other problems in the human body.

We all know that the nervous system is the main controller of each & every activity which a human body performs. If we have any problem with the nervous system we can suffer various neurological diseases. But here we are about to discuss the most common health problem which is related to the nervous system or neurological problem. This Disease is known as Depression.

What is Depression?

Almost every person may know what depression is, but for the sake of people who do not know about it here is the definition. Depression is a state which is related to the mood of the human, generally when he is sad or unhappy due to the some downturn, recession in business or stress/tension in the workplace. In other words we can say that it is mental condition with the feeling of despair, sadness, loss of energy which leads to difficulty in living a normal daily life. It can be seen in a person who do not enjoy any activity, change in eating habits, not having sound sleep and thoughts to end life comes in the mind.

Depression is a disease which can be found in any person of any age group and it can also be successfully treated. The occurrence of depression can be different such as it can happen once or happen multiple times, it can remain for a short period or for a long period like few months or life long, it can happen suddenly or slowly.

The person or the patient should always take care about himself; proper care is needed whenever a person is encountered with depression. It should not be an early decision to declare that a person is suffering from depression. The person should be reviewed for a couple of weeks before confirming depression.

As said earlier that depression can be seen in any age group, it is sometime very difficult to deal with depression in children rather than adult. This is because we know that one sign of depression is the change in mood, which is the most normal thing of childhood.
So it is mostly neglected from the child’s side.

In some situations children act quiet normal, but in some cases it can be identified easily by seeing the changes which occur in the daily activities of the child. There may be symptoms like bad performance in the academics, start consumption of drugs or alcohol, loosing interest in school etc.

So before the situation reaches to its worst heights and cause a lot of damage or affect the life of the person, it should be taken care of. Extra care should be taken and proper attention must be provided to the patient. Regular check-ups with the doctor and on regular interval of time must be scheduled.
