As this is recursive in nature, continuous treatment is necessary. The basic and most important treatment is proper and adequate sleep.

The sufferer of this disease must consult a psychiatrist, as he/she may provide some medication known as mood stabilizers. At times also some kinds of anti-depressants are also prescribed for balancing the highs and lows of the mood.

This change from high to low or low to high is the basic symptom of manic depression. It can be found in men as well as women. The patient suffering from manic depression should be treated very well otherwise the frequency and severity of the disease will increase over the years.
